Turtle Days King and Queen Requirements and Information
*This is an opportunity for you to earn a $250.00 scholarship towards your education. The Turtle Days Festival Scholarship Committee has established a continuing education scholarship in an effort to encourage community involvement with the youth in our community that reside within the Smith-Green School District.
1. A scholarship will be awarded to both a male and female student.
2. The application will be completed by students from the current junior class who will be entering their senior year in the fall after Turtle Days.
3. Applicants must be a junior in high school when the application is submitted. The program will run from April of their junior year through June after their senior year.
4. The Applicant must reside in the Smith Green School District. This does include anyone that is in a home schooling system within the district.
5. They must also be registered at a college at the time that the Scholarship is awarded in May of their senior year.
6. Each Applicant must also secure a sponsor at the time of application. This must be a place of business where the public will be able to offer donations.
7. Each applicant will receive two collection money jars. One jar will be placed at an area business (you’re chosen sponsor) and donations will be collected. The other jar will be kept with the applicant to raise money on their own as well as at the fundraising events that will be attended by the applicants.
8. The fundraising events will be held throughout the summer after your junior school year and throughout your senior year. These events will be announced at a later time. They will be events such as bake sales, car washes, as well as working directly with the Park Board on the Children’s Park Program, and assisting with non-profit organizations.
9. The student raising the most money (a male and female) will be awarded the King and Queen titles and must agree to be in the parade in June following their senior year.
10. All applicants will be required to be in the parade in June of their junior year.
11. Each student will be responsible for attending all functions to earn money. They will get points based on the events that they attend as well as the length of time that they attend the event. An award will be given to the student with the most participation.
12. We will begin taking applications in March and will end the application acceptance in May (see date on application).
13. The Turtle Days Committee will have a representative award the scholarships out at the senior award night.

I understand that an educational scholarship will be awarded to me if I am selected as the final King/Queen Candidate, and is paid to the school of my choice. In the event that I fail to abide by the rules and regulations governing this contest I will immediately forfeit the aforementioned educational scholarship, and also forfeit the title of King/Queen or King/Queen Candidate if deemed necessary by the Turtle Days Festival Committee. In the event that I do not wish to avail myself of the educational advantages of this scholarship, then I shall forfeit this scholarship. If, after accepting the scholarship, I desire to discontinue my education, I shall forfeit any unused portion of this scholarship. In the event that I have not started to use the scholarship fund within one year of the contest, I shall forfeit the entire scholarship fund. The scholarship award is non-transferable. All unused scholarship funds shall revert into the Turtle Days Festival Scholarship Fund.
